Oblong Flat Lozenge-Shaped Freshwater Pearls
These are pearls for the maker who wants something genuinely different. The oblong flat lozenge shape, broad, rectangular, and elegantly elongated, is rarely seen in freshwater pearl strings and gives a finished piece a bold, architectural quality that round or oval pearls simply cannot achieve. The colour is equally striking: a deep, complex greeny-bronze that shifts between mossy olive green, warm bronze, and flashes of purple and gold iridescence as the pearls catch the light. Rather reminiscent of a beetle’s wing or the surface of aged bronze in sunlight.
At 18 x 9mm these are substantial, statement pearls, and with the end drilling each one sits lengthways along the strand, presenting its full broad face to the eye. For anyone drawn to the more unconventional end of pearl jewellery, these are a real find.
