Pink Keshi Coin Pearl Necklace
Susan has lovingly made this gorgeous pink Keshi coin pearl necklace that looks good enough to eat! Using top-drilled pearls means that Susan could create a close-stepped effect, which lays out the pearls in a tight but random pattern, highlighting off their individual irregularities perfectly.
These 17-18mm (very approximately) Keshi pearls glow a delicate orangy-pink, with their colours changing as they reflect the light when moving. Susan has finished the necklace with a sturdy, sterling silver T-bar clasp and has thoughtfully included a second ring to allow around 15mm of extra adjustment if required.
Keshi pearls are among the most prized of all freshwater pearl forms. They grow without a nucleus, which means they are composed almost entirely of nacre. Nacre is the very substance that gives pearls their luminous glow. This is why these pearls seem to shine from within, rather than simply reflecting light from the surface. It is also why no two are ever quite the same shape.
